Thousands of protesters have rallied in Kenya's capital Nairobi to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
Most of the protesters today (Wednesday) in the Korogocho slum were school-age children.
Event organizer, Sylvia Mwichuli, says this was appropriate because poverty has the worst effect on the youngest people.
The Kenyan protesters contributed to a 24-hour, 90-nation campaign to end global poverty.
Seven years ago, world leaders from close to 200 countries adopted the so-called Millennium Development Goals -- including elimination of poverty, decreasing HIV and AIDS and improving access to health and education by the year 2015.
Global organizers of the 24-hour "Stand Up and Speak Out Campaign" estimate that tens of millions of people worldwide will take to their feet today and demand leaders end global poverty.
