Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held talks today (Thursday) with the U.N.'s top nuclear watchdog official, Mohamed El Baradei.
Neither official spoke about their meeting but press reports suggest they discussed India's controversial civilian nuclear deal with the United States.
On Wednesday, El Baradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, voiced support for the agreement, saying he would like to see India become a full partner in the nuclear field. El Baradei is on a five day visit to India, described as routine.
His trip comes as political infighting over the deal threatens to bring down the Singh government.
India's communists strongly oppose the U.S. deal, arguing it will undermine India's independent foreign policy and nuclear weapons program. The Communist Party could force early elections by withdrawing its support for the Congress party-led government.
The two sides have been holding a series of talks to discuss concerns raised by opponents to the deal.
