Iraqi authorities say violence in Iraq today (Tuesday) has killed more than 30 people.
The attacks included two suicide car bombings in the northern city of Baiji. The bombings targeted a police chief and a Sunni tribal leader working with U.S. forces fighting al-Qaida. Both men survived, but at least 19 people were killed.
In Baghdad, Iraqi officials say two women were shot and killed by private security guards escorting a convoy. Further details about the Karrada district shooting were not immediately available.
Also in Baghdad, a series of bomb blasts killed at least 11 people. And in the northern city of Mosul, authorities say gunmen shot dead a deputy police chief.
The deadly incidents come as an Iraqi government report calls for the American security firm Blackwater USA to pay 136 million dollars to the families of Iraqis killed in a recent shooting by the company -- equal to eight million dollars per victim.
