노무현 대통령과 김정일 국방위원장의 역사적인 남북한 정상회담이 4일 막을 내렸습니다. 두 정상은 한 반도의 평화와 번영을 위한 폭 넓은 합의를 도출했습니다.
4일 발표된 공동선언에서 두 정상은 한국전쟁 당시 맺어진 정전체제를 종식하고 평화체제의 구축을 추진하기로 합의했습니다. 두 정상은 또 군사적 적대관계를 종식하고, 긴장을 완화하기 위해 합께 협력하기로 합의했습니다.
이 선언에는 한국전쟁에 참전했 미국과 중국을 포함해서, 3자 혹은 4자간 협상을 통해 평화체제를 구축해 나간다는 내용도 들어있습니다.
한국 청와대의 백종천 대변인은 남북한이 북한의 핵과 관련해서 맺어진 다자간 협정을 이행하고, 한반도의 핵 문제를 풀기위해서 협력하기로 합의했다고 전했습니다.
한편 반기문 유엔사무총장은 이번 선언을 통해서 한반도와 동북아 지역의 평화와 안보 확대를 위해 중대한 걸음을 내디뎠다고 말했습니다.
미국 백악관과 국무부는 이번 성명과 관련해서 북한과 국제사회의 관계를 변화시키기 위해서 6자회담이 중심이 되야한다는 점을 강조했습니다.

South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun and North Korean leader Kim Jong Il have ended a landmark summit in Pyongyang, signing a wide-ranging agreement to promote peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula.
In a joint declaration today (Thursday), Mr. Kim and Mr. Roh agreed to push for a peace treaty to replace the armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War. The two agreed to closely cooperate to end "military hostility" and "ease tensions."
They also agreed to invite the participation of China and the United States, who also fought in the war and would have to sign the treaty.
South Korean Presidential Secretary Baek Jong-chun says the two leaders also put their signatures to a process that could lead to North Korea abandoning all of its nuclear programs.
Baek says South and North also agreed to cooperate in the implementation of two agreements reached in multinational nuclear talks, in order to resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula.
