파키스탄 당국은 3일, 3개월 전에 이슬라마바드에서 정부군의 공격으로 100여명의 사망자를 냈던 ‘붉은 사원’의 문을 다시 열었습니다.
파키스탄 대법원이 붉은 사원의 재개를 명령한지 하룻만인 이날, 수백명의 예배자들이 이 사원에서 기도를 드렸습니다.
‘붉은 사원’은 지난 7월말에 잠시 다시 문을 열었으나, 시위대들이 이 사원을 점거하고, 부근지역에서 자살폭탄공격으로 14명이 사망하자 몇시간 후에 다시 폐쇄됐습니다.
지난 7월 급진주의자들의 8일간에 걸친 ‘붉은 사원’ 농성으로 급진적인 최고성직자 압둘 라시드 가지 등 100여명이 살해됐습니다.
페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령은 이날, 극단주의자들이 다시 이 사원을 점거하는 것을 당국이 용인하지 않을 것이라고 경고했습니다.

Authorities in Pakistan have reopened a radical mosque in the capital where an army raid three months ago killed more than 100 people.
Hundreds of worshippers offered prayers today (Wednesday) at Islamabad's Red Mosque (or Lal Masjid), a day after Pakistan's Supreme Court ordered it to be reopened.
The Red Mosque was briefly opened in late July but was closed within hours after protesters occupied buildings and a suicide bomber killed 14 people nearby.
In early July, an eight-day siege at the compound killed more than 100 people, including a top radical cleric (Abdul Rashid Ghazi). Pakistani security forces were ordered in after students and clerics in the mosque-run school led an aggressive campaign to impose strict Islamic law in Pakistan.
Clerics have promised to continue a peaceful campaign to impose Sharia.
President Pervez Musharraf said today (Wednesday) that authorities will not allow extremists to re-take the mosque.
