Pakistani officials say two soldiers and 10 pro-Taleban militants were killed in a clash near the Afghan border today (Wednesday).
Authorities say the fighting erupted when militants attacked an army post outside Speen Wam, near the North Waziristan tribal region's main town of Miran Shah.
On Monday, pro-Taleban militants captured 24 soldiers from another military checkpoint in the region.
Pakistan is struggling to contain a recent upsurge in violence in its northwestern region following the collapse of a peace deal in July between the government and pro-Taleban tribesmen.
