유엔 인권이사회는 2일, 유엔 유럽본부에서 특별회의를 갖고 평화적인 반정부시위에 대한 군사정권의 폭력적인 탄압을 규탄하는 결의안을 채택했습니다.
유엔 인권이사회 47개 회원국들은 버마 보안군이 평화적인 시위자들을 마구 구타, 살해하고, 임의 구금했다고 비난하는 결의안을 만장일치로 통과시켰습니다.
이에 앞서 유엔의 루이스 아르부르 인권담당관은 버마 군사정부가 지난 주 반정부시위때 수많은 사람들이 살해되고 부상당한 사태에 대해 충분히 해명할 것을 촉구했습니다.
또 다른 사태 발전으로 버마의 군사통치자 탄 슈웨 장군은 이날, 새로운 행정수도 나이피타우에서 이브라힘 감바리 유엔 특사를 접견했습니다.
감바리 특사는 탄 슈웨 장군과 회담을 마친 후에 다시 랑군으로 돌아와 버마 민주화 지도자 아웅산 수지 여사와 두번째 면담을 가졌습니다.

The United Nations Human Rights Council has condemned the Burmese military government for its "violent repression" of peaceful opposition protests.
The 47 member states of the Geneva-based Council today (Tuesday) passed a resolution by consensus that deplores "beatings, killings and arbitrary detentions" carried out by Burmese security forces.
Earlier, the top U.N. human rights official, Louise Arbour, called on Burma to give a "full account" of the number of protesters killed and wounded in the crackdown last week.
In another development today, Burma's military ruler General Than Shwe met with U.N. special envoy Ibrahim Gambari in the new capital, Naypyitaw, after days of delay. Gambari then returned to Rangoon for his second meeting in a week with detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. No details of his talks were released.
