The U.S. military in Afghanistan is printing thousands of wanted posters and offering cash rewards for information leading to the capture of 12 Taleban and al Qaida leaders.
Officials say the posters and billboards offering 20-thousand to 200-thousand dollars for information are designed to persuade locals to turn in insurgent cell leaders. They also say they hope raising the militants' profiles will make it harder for them to hide.
The campaign comes at the same time Afghan officials proposed holding peace talks with Taleban insurgents. A Taleban spokesman rejected the offer Sunday, saying no talks are possible as long as foreign troops are in the country.
Meanwhile, Afghan police said Taleban militants in violent Helmand province hanged a teenager Sunday because he had U.S. dollars in his possession.
