중국의 원자바오 총리는 30일 타이완인들에게 공식적인 독립을 추진하지 말고 중국 본토와의 통일을 위해 노력할 것을 촉구했습니다. 중국은 타이완을 자국 영토의 일부로 간주하고 있으며 타이완 정부가 공식 독립을 선언할 경우 군사 행동을 취할 것이라고 위협해왔습니다.

Taiwan's ruling party has passed a resolution calling for a new constitution and a referendum on the island's sovereignty.
The resolution by the Democratic Progressive Party today (Sunday) aims to create a roadmap to assert Taiwan's separate identity from communist-ruled China.
It says the self-governing island should use "Taiwan" as its official title, but it stops short of calling for abolishing its current name, "Republic of China."
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao today (Sunday) urged the Taiwanese to resist moving toward formal independence, and to work toward reunification with the mainland.
China considers Taiwan part of its territory. It has threatened to take military action if Taiwan's government declares formal independence. Taiwan split from the mainland in 1949 during China's civil war.
