목격자들은 랑군에 29일 소규모 반정부 시위대가 모였지만, 보안군에 의해 곧바로 해산됐다고 말했습니다.
지난 26일 이후 버마 보안군은 반정부 시위대를 해산하기 위해 시위대에 발포했습니다. 공식 사망자는 10명이지만, 실제 숫자는 훨씬 더 많을 것이라는 우려가 폭넓게 퍼져 있습니다.
인권 단체들과 버마와 접촉하고 있는 망명자들은 인터넷과 다른 형태의 전자적 통신 수단이 대부분 차단됐다고 말했습니다.
A senior U.N.envoy is in Burma to urge the military government to end its violent crackdown on pro-democracy protesters.
Ibrahim Gambari arrived today in Rangoon and then headed for the administrative capital Naypyidaw for talks with military leaders. The U.N. secretary-general sent Gambari to Burma n "an urgent mission" to try to broker talks between protesters and the generals who run the ountry.
Witnesses say small groups of anti-government protesters gathered in Rangoon today but were uickly dispersed by security forces.
Since Wednesday, Burmese security forces have used gunfire to disperse thousands of rotesters. The official death toll is 10, but there are fears the actual number may be far higher.
Military squads in Rangoon and (Burma's second largest city) Mandalay have raided and ordoned off Buddhist monasteries, and detained monks accused of instigating the
demonstrations.
Human-rights groups and exiles with contacts in Burma say the Internet and most other forms of lectronic communications were cut off.
