유엔 인도주의업무조정국, OCHA는 28일 강진으로 큰 피해를 입은 페루 이재민들을 구호하기 위해 기금 모금을 결정하고 국제사회에 3천700만 달러의 지원금을 요청했습니다.
OCHA의 엘리자베스 바이어스 대변인은 지금도 20 만 명이 도움을 필요로 하고 있다며, 수질 정화장치와 하수 설비, 발전기 등이 시급히 필요하다고 밝혔습니다.
이번에 모금하는 구호 기금은 수 많은 이재민들에 대한 의료, 식수, 식량, 텐트 및 담요 등을 제공하는데 사용될 예정이라고 OCHA측은 덧붙였습니다.
지난 15일 발생한 리히터 규모 8도의 강진으로 적어도 500명 이상의 페루 주민들이 숨지고 1천명 이상이 부상했으며, 3만7천 여 채의 가옥이 붕괴됐으며 14개의 병원과 수 백개의 학교도 무너졌습니다.

The United Nations has made an international appeal for 37 million dollars to aid earthquake victims in Peru.
The U.N.'s humanitarian affairs office asked for the money today (Tuesday). It said the funds are needed to help provide food, water, tents and blankets for thousands of people affected by last week's quake.
A spokeswoman for the office (Elisabeth Byrs) said 200-thousand people are still in need. She said water purification supplies, electric generators and tools to clear rubble are needed immediately.
The eight-point-zero-magnitude quake struck August 15th, killing more than 500 people and injuring more than one thousand.
Preliminary assessments show the quake destroyed more than 37-thousand houses, as well as 14 hospitals and hundreds of schools.
