6자 회담의 북일 국교 정상화 2차 실무회의를 다음달 5일부터 이틀 간 몽고 수도인 울란바토르에서 개최하기로 양측 정부가 합의했다고, 일본 외무성이 28일 밝혔습니다.
일본 측은 이번 회담에서 1970년대부터 80년대에 걸쳐 발생했던 일본인 피랍 문제에 대해 북한에 압력을 가할 것으로 보입니다.
북한은 지난 2002년 간첩 훈련을 위해 일본 시민 13명을 납치했다고 시인한 바 있습니다. 북한은 이 가운데 5명을 귀환시켰으며, 나머지는 사망했다고 밝혔었습니다. 일본 정부는 납북자가 더 있다고 주장하고 있습니다.
북일 실무회의는 지난 3월 베트남에서 열렸으나, 당시 일본 측은 "납치 문제의 해결이 없는 국교 정상화는 없다"는 강경 입장을 고수하고, 북한도 "납치 문제는 해결된 사안"이라고 맞섬에 따라 결렬됐었습니다.

Japanese officials say special envoys from Japan and North Korea are planning to hold talks in Mongolia's capital early next month.
Officials said today (Tuesday) the meetings will be held September fifth and sixth in Ulaanbaatar.
Japan's envoy is expected to press his counterpart on North Korea's abduction of Japanese citizens in the 1970's and '80's.
In 2002, North Korea admitted that it kidnapped 13 Japanese citizens to train its spies. It sent five of them home and said the rest had died.
Japan says more of its citizens were kidnapped.
North Korea says Japan should make up for its colonization of the Korean peninsula from 1910 to 1945 .
The countries last held talks in Vietnam in March, but those meetings collapsed over the abduction issue.
