Dozens of Palestinian journalists staged a sit-in in Gaza today (Sunday), to protest the treatment of their colleagues by the Islamist Hamas movement.
The journalists also rallied Saturday in Ramallah to oppose what they called aggression by Hamas against reporters and photographers.
The group said it was protesting violations of freedom of the press by members of the "Executive Force," the Hamas paramilitary wing.
On Friday, Executive Force members fired into the air to disperse a demonstration in Gaza City by thousands of supporters of the rival Fatah faction. Hamas fighters attempted to prevent journalists from covering the demonstration, and troops broke the cameras of several news photographers.
Hamas seized control of Gaza in mid-June after six days of clashes in which more than 100 people died.
