북한의 관영 조선중앙통신은 이날 북한군의 성명을 통해 미국은 이번 을지포커스연습이 북핵문제에 관한 2.13합의 를 이행하는데 초래될 파국적 결과에 대해 책임을 져야 할 것이라고 말했습니다. 조선중앙통신은 이날 판문점에서 열린 북 미군간 접촉에서 미국측에 이 성명을 전달했다고 밝혔습니다.
한미 을지포커스훈련은 병력과 전투장비 투입을 최소화하고 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션으로 전장 상황을 가정해 실시하는 양국군의 지휘소 연습으로 1975년 첫 연습이 실시된 이래 올해로 33회째를 맞고 있습니다.

The United States says it expects joint military exercises with South Korea to go ahead despite North Korea's warning that they could derail a deal to end Pyongyang's nuclear program.
U.S. State Department spokesman Tom Casey today (Friday) described the exercises as long-standing and routine.
North Korea's Central News Agency issued a statement today (Friday) by the North Korean army saying that the U.S. will be held responsible for the "catastrophic impact" the joint military exercises will have on the implementation of the February 13th nuclear disarmament deal.
KCNA said the statement was handed to the U.S. military officials at a meeting of colonels from the North Korean military and U.S. forces in South Korea at the truce village of Panmumjom.
The August 20th to 31st exercises will coincide with a planned three-day inter-Korean summit beginning August 28th in Pyongyang.
