아프가니스탄 주둔 미군은 연합군이 남부 헬만드주에서 저항세력과 교전을 벌여 전투원 50명 이상을 사살했다고 밝혔습니다.
미군은 성명에서 현지 시각으로 오늘(26일) 종료된 12시간에 걸친 교전에서 연합군 사상자는 발생하지 않았으며 민간인(사회사람) 부상자에 대한 보고도 없었다고 말했습니다.
미군은 연합군 전투기들이 무사괄라 마을 근처에서 벌어진 이번 교전에 공습으로 측면 지원했다고 덧붙였습니다.
저항세력은 이 마을과 주변지역을 외국군과 아프간 병력을 공격하기 위한 교두보로 이용해 왔습니다.
한편 영국 국방부는 헬만드주에서 트럭을 이용한 폭탄공격이 발생해 영군군 1명이 숨지고 2명이 다쳤다고 밝혔습니다.
영국은 아프간 남부지역에 7천명의 병력을 주둔시키고 있습니다.

The U.S. military in Afghanistan says coalition forces have killed more than 50 insurgents in a battle in the southern province of Helmand.
A military statement said coalition troops suffered no casualties, and that there were no reports of civilian injuries during the 12 hour battle that ended early today (Thursday).
It said coalition warplanes were involved in the fighting that took place near the village of Musa Qala. Insurgents use the village and surrounding areas to launch attacks against foreign and Afghan troops.
On Wednesday, Britain's defense ministry said a British soldier died and two other British troops were wounded when an explosion struck their armored vehicle in Helmand province.
Britain has about seven-thousand troops in Afghanistan -- mostly fighting Taleban in Helmand.
