이날 표결 후 상원의 민주당 원내대표인 해리 리드 의원은 공화당 의원들이 이른바 ‘비극적 실패’로 부시 대통령을 지지하는 쪽을 선택했다고 비난했습니다.

Republicans in the U.S. Senate have blocked a Democratic-sponsored measure calling for the withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq.
A vote today (Wednesday) came after a rare all-night debate in which Democrats tried to persuade Republicans to approve the measure.
Sixty votes were needed to advance the amendment, but the measure fell short in a 52-to-47 vote to limit debate and bring it to a vote.
Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, accused Republicans of choosing to support President Bush in what the lawmaker called a "tragic failure."
Top Senate Republican Mitch McConnell echoed a call from President Bush, calling on lawmakers to wait until September for a Pentagon assessment of the so-called U.S. troop surge in Iraq.
The failed amendment called for a withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq to begin in 120 days of enactment, and to be completed by next April. The House of Representatives passed similar legislation last week.
Senate Republicans had vowed they would not allow the measure to move forward, and they accused Democrats of political theater for forcing the lengthy debate.
