고든 브라운 영국총리는 지난주 런던과 글래스고에서 발생한 연쇄 테러공격에 외국에서 고용한 의사들이 개입한 것으로 밝혀지자 영국 의료당국에 외국 의료진들의 고용을 재검토하라고 지시했습니다.
브라운 총리는 또 의회가 국내로 이민오는 외국인 숙련공들에 대한 신원조사를 강화할 것이라고 말했습니다.
지난달 29일과 30일 각각 런던과 스코틀랜드 글래스고에서 불발로 끝난 두 건의 연쇄 차량폭탄테러 공격과 관련해 구금된 8명의 용의자들은 모두 영국 보건부를 통해 국내 병원에 고용된 의사들인 것으로 알려졌습니다.
이 가운데 6명은 현재 런던의 페딩턴 그린 경찰서에 구금중이며 7번째 용의자인 카리드 아흐메드는 지난달 30일 스코틀랜드 글래스고 공항에 폭발물을 실은 지프차량을 몰고 돌진한 2명 가운데 한 명으로 현재 전신에 화상을 입고 스코틀랜드의 한 병원에서 치료중입니다.
8번째 용의자인 인도국적인 무하메드 하네프는 2일 호주에서 출국을 시도하다가 경찰에 체포됐습니다. 하네프의 가족은 그가 인도에 있는 부인과 갓 태어난 아기를 보기 위해 출국하려던 중이었다고 말했습니다.
영국당국은 하네프가 다른 용의자가 일했던 영국내 같은 병원에서 함께 일했었다고 말했습니다.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has ordered a review of the recruitment process of foreigners to the country's health service after the arrest of a number of doctors following last week's bomb attacks.
Mr. Brown told parliament authorities will also expand background checks on immigrants entering the country to fill skilled jobs.
All eight suspects detained following car bombing attempts in London and Glasgow last week had ties to Britain's National Health Service. Six of the suspects are in custody in London's Paddington Green police station. A seventh, Khalid Ahmed, is in a Scottish hospital being treated for severe burns suffered in the attempt to crash a jeep into the Glasgow airport terminal.
The eighth suspect, an Indian national named Muhammed Haneef, was arrested Monday in Australia as he tried to leave the country.
