고든 존드로 국가안보회의(NSC) 대변인은 그러나 이번 회의가 취소됐다고 말했고 백악관의 다나 페리노 대변인은 관타나모 수용소의 폐쇄 임박설을 부인했습니다.
일부 언론들은 정부 당국자의 말을 인용해 관타나모 수용소 폐쇄이후 수감자 4백여명의 이송 장소를 놓고 관리들 사이에 합의가 이뤄지지 않고 있다고 전했습니다. 일부 관리들은 수감자들을 미국내 군 교도소로 이송하는 방안을 제시했으나 딕 체니 부통령과 법무부 관리들은 이에 반대하고 있는 것으로 알려졌습니다. 체니 부통령과 법무부 관리들은 수감자들을 미국으로 이송할 경우 이들이 미국 법률제도에 따라 수감자가 누리는 기본권리와 혜택을 받을 수 있지 않을까 우려하고 있다고 미국 언론들은 전하고 있습니다.

Some U.S. media say the Bush administration is seriously talking about shutting down the detention facility for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Reports Thursday said officials planned to meet today (Friday) to discuss the future of the prison. However, a National Security Council spokesman (Gordon Johndroe) says the meeting was canceled. White House spokeswoman Dana Perino denies that a decision on the future of Guantanamo Bay is imminent.
Some media in Washington report that administration officials said there is disagreement about where to transfer nearly 400 suspected terrorists if the facility is closed. Among the suggestions is moving some detainees to military prisons on U.S. soil. But Vice President Dick Cheney and officials at the Justice Department are opposed to such a move, because it would grant the detainees basic rights under the U.S. legal system.
