미국 국무부는 이란이 또다른 제 3의 이란계 미국인을 투옥시켰음을 확인했습니다.
톰 케이시 국무부 부대변인은 31일 이란이 기업인이며 평화운동가인 알리 샤케리 씨를 테헤란의 에빈 교도소에 구금하고 있다며 이는 매우 우려되는 행동이라고 말했습니다. 이란계 미국인 학자 할레 에스판디아리 여사와 키안 타즈박쉬 씨등도 현재 이 교도소에 수감돼 있으며, 간첩 혐의로 기소된 상태입니다.
또 다른 이란계 미국인 파르나즈 아지마 씨도 간첩 혐의로 기소됐으며, 이란 출국이 금지되고 있습니다.
샤케리 씨가 공식 기소됐는지는 밝혀지지 않았습니다. 그러나 미국은 이란이 이들을 간첩혐의로 기소한 것은 터무니없는 일이라고 말했습니다. 미국 관계자들은 이들이 미국으로 돌아올 수 있도록 허용되어야 한다고 거듭 밝혔습니다.

The U.S. State Department has confirmed that Iran has jailed a third Iranian-American and is preventing a fourth from leaving the country.
A department spokesman (Tom Casey) says businessman and peace activist Ali Shakeri is being detained at Tehran's Evin prison, in what the official calls part of a disturbing pattern. Iranian-American academics Haleh Esfandiari and Kian Tajbakhsh are also being held in the prison and have been charged with spying.
Another Iranian-American Parnaz Azima is also charged with spying, and has been barred from leaving Iran.
It is not clear if Shakeri has been formally charged. But the United States says it is preposterous for Iran to accuse any of them of spying. U.S. officials have repeatedly said they should be allowed to return to the U.S.
Meanwhile, international human rights groups and Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi are urging Iran to free the jailed Iranian-Americans and lift travel bans against Azima and French-Iranian journalist Mehrnoush Solouki.
