중국의 군사력 증강에 관한 미 국방부 보고서는 과장된 것이라고 중국 관영신문이 보도했습니다.
중국 공산당 기관지인 ‘인민일보’는27일자 사설에서 미 국방부의 연례 보고서는 중국의 군사적 위협을 왜곡함으로써 국제사회 여론을 오도하려는 것이라고 말했습니다.
미 국방부는 지난 25일에 발표한 보고서에서 중국이 영토의 일부로 간주하고 있는 타이완을 염두에 두고, 첨단 미사일과 항공기, 선박을 개발하고 있다고 지적했습니다.
그러나 미 국방부 보고서는 또한 중국이 동아시아 지역을 넘어서 선제공격 능력을 강화시키고 있으며, 석유와 같은 자원확보 능력을 보호하기 위한 무기도 개발하고 있다고 말했습니다.
인민일보 사설은 중국은 국방을 위해 군사력을 일정 수준으로 유지하고 있을 뿐이라고 말했습니다.

China's state-run media say a U.S. Defense Department report about Beijing's defense plans has exaggerated the country's military buildup.
An editorial in the "People's Daily" newspaper says today (Sunday) the Pentagon's annual report attempts to mislead international opinion by distorting China's military threat.
The report released Friday says China is developing sophisticated missiles, aircraft, and ships, mainly with a focus on the self-governing island of Taiwan, which Beijing says is a part of Chinese territory. But the report also says China is increasing its capacity to launch pre-emptive strikes beyond East Asia and is developing weapons to protect the country's access to resources like oil.
The "People's Daily" editorial says the China maintains a certain level of military strength for self defense.
