중국은 자국 화폐인 위안화의 달러 대 가치가 더 빠르게 상승할 수 있도록, 상한 규제를 완화할 것이로 발표했습니다. 미국 정부는 그 동안 중국의 통화 정책을 완화할 것을 요구했었습니다.
중국중앙은행은 18일 달러대비 위안화의 일일 최대 인상폭을 0.3퍼센트에서 0.5퍼센트로 상향 조정할 것이라고 말했습니다.
미국은 그 동안 중국에 대한 수십억 달러의 무역 적자 규모를 줄이기 위해서 중국이 위안화 가치 인상을 요구했었습니다.
미국 의회 의원과 기업인들은 중국이 자국 환율을 인위적으로 낮게 유지함으로써, 중국의 수출업체들이 가격 경쟁에서 부당한 이익을 취하고 있다고 주장해왔습니다.

China has announced that it will let its currency, the yuan, rise faster in value against the U.S. dollar following pressure by Washington to ease exchange rate controls.
The Chinese Central Bank said today (Friday) it is widening the band in which the yuan is allowed to fluctuate in value against the dollar each day from point-three percent to point-five percent.
Washington has been pressing Beijing to let the yuan's value rise faster in hopes of narrowing a multibillion-dollar U.S. trade deficits with China.
Some members of the U.S. Congress and American manufacturers say part of the problem is that Beijing manipulates the value of its currency, keeping it artificially low, giving Chinese-made goods another price advantage on world markets.
