이라크 알-카에다 테러 조직의 지도자 아부 아유브 알-마스리가 조직내부의 교전으로 사망했다고 이라크 내무부가 전했습니다.
내무부 대변인인 압둘 카림 칼라프 준장은 이번 교전은 1일 수도 바그다드 북부에서 발생했고 알-마스리가 교전중에 사망했다는 확실한 정보 보고를 받았다고 말했습니다. 칼라프 준장은 그러나 이 보고는 이라크 당국이 마스리의 시신을 확보할 때까지 확인할 수 없다고 덧붙였습니다.
이라크 주둔 미군 당국은 마스리의 사망 여부를 아직 확인할 수 없지만 현재 수사중이라고 말했습니다. 이집트 국적의 마스리는 지난해 6월 이라크 알-카에다를 이끌던 요르단 출신 무장요원 아부 무삽 알-자르카위가 미군 공습에서 숨진 후 새 지도자로 부상했습니다.
한편, 바그다드 남부에서는 이날 무장괴한들이 버스 두대를 공격해 여성과 어린이를 포함한 승객 적어도 14명이 숨졌다고 현지 관리들이 전했습니다.

Iraq's Interior Ministry says al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri has been killed in a clash among members of his insurgent group.
A ministry spokesman (Brig. Gen. Abdul Kareem Khalaf) says intelligence reports indicate Masri was killed in fighting north of Baghdad. He added the report can not be confirmed until authorities take possession of Masri's body.
A U.S. military spokesman (Lt. Col. Christopher Garver) says the military can not confirm the claim, but is investigating.
Masri, an Egyptian, assumed the leadership of the terrorist group after Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a U.S. airstrike in June 2006.
In other news, Iraqi officials say gunmen attacked two buses south of Baghdad, killing at least 14 passengers, including women and children.
Police say several people were wounded in the attacks today (Tuesday) near the towns of Iskandariya and Latifiya.
