미군 관계관들은 낭가라흐 지역내 무장분자들이 앞으로 몇 주 안에 자살 폭탄 공격을 계획중이라는 정보를 입수한 뒤인 29일 일찍, 기습작전을 전개했다고 전했습니다.
한 미군 관계관은 미국 주도의 연합군과 아프간 정부군 병력이 한 주거지로 접근하는 가운데 공격을 받아 응사하는 과정에서 무장분자 4명을 살해했다고 말했습니다.
이 관계관은 양측간 교전에서 여성과 10대 청소년 각각 한 명이 사망했으며 다른 어린이 두 명이 부상했다고 덧붙였습니다. 아프간 경찰은 이들 사망자 가운데 최소한 5명이 민간인들이었다고 말하고 있습니다.
미군 관계관들은 민간인들이 사망한데 대해 우려를 표명했습니다.

Hundreds of people in eastern Afghanistan have carried out anti-American protests, after U.S. and Afghan forces killed six people, including at least two civilians, in a raid.
The protesters in Nangarhar province chanted "Death to Bush" and temporarily blocked the region's main highway.
U.S. officials say they launched the raid early today (Sunday) after receiving a tip that militants in Nangarhar were planning suicide attacks in the coming weeks.
A U.S. military officer (Major William Mitchell) says U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces came under attack as they approached a compound and returned fire, killing four militants.
The officer says a woman and a teenager were killed in the crossfire, and that two children were wounded.
Afghan police say at least five of the dead were civilians.
U.S. officials expressed concern over the loss of civilian lives.
