반기문 유엔 사무총장이 31일 레바논 국경 지대를 방문했습니다. 반 총장은 지난해 이스라엘과 헤즈볼라와의 휴전헙정 이후 이 지역에서 활동중인 평화유지군에 대해서도 감사를 표했습니다.
현지 지휘관으로부터 브리핑을 받은 반 총장은 이후 헬리콥터로 다른 지역을 둘러본 뒤 31일 오후 뉴욕으로 복귀할 예정입니다.
반 총장은 사우디 아라비아에서 열린 아랍 정상회담에 참석한 뒤 29일 레바논 수도 베이루트에 도착했습니다.
이어 31일에는 레바논의 국가적 화해를 위해 레바논 지도자들이 보다 적극적으로 대화에 임할 것을 촉구했습니다.
레바논 정부는 헤즈볼라가 이끄는 반 시리아 세력과 시리아와 이란의 후원을 받고 있는 시아파 무장 세력이 대치하고 있습니다.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon toured a border area of Lebanon today (Saturday) to thank peacekeepers for monitoring the ceasefire after the war last year between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas.
Mr. Ban was briefed by senior commanders and was expected to fly by helicopter to other bases along the border before returning to New York later in the day.
The U.N. chief arrived in Beirut Thursday from Saudi Arabia, where he attended an Arab summit.
On Friday, Mr. Ban urged Lebanon's leaders to engage in dialogue for the purpose of promoting national reconciliation.
The Lebanese government has been in a months-long political standoff with the pro-Syrian opposition led by Hezbollah, a militant Shi'ite group backed by Syria and Iran.
