이보다 앞서 러시아 주재 이란 대사는 이란이 영국 해군들에 대해 법적 조사를 벌이고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 골람-레자 안사리 대사는 러시아 텔레비전과의 인터뷰에서 이들의 유죄가 확정될 경우 처벌을 받을 것이라고 말했습니다.
한편 영국 외교장관은 이란이 이 문제를 평화적으로 해결할 것을 촉구했습니다. 마가렛 벡켓 장관은 독일 베를린에서 열린 유럽연합 외무장관회담에서, 영국은 이란과 대화할 용의가 있다는 입장을 계속 밝히고 있다고 말했습니다.

Britain has responded to a letter from Iran concerning Tehran's detention of 15 British sailors and marines.
Officials in London today (Saturday) said a written response was issued to the communiqu頴hat Iran sent to Britain on Thursday. The officials did not reveal the contents of the letter, which is believed to be the first written communication between the two nations since the crisis began March 23rd.
Iran's ambassador to Russia said his government has begun a legal investigation into its assertion that the British naval personnel violated Iranian waters. Gholam-Reza Ansari was quoted on Russian television as saying the 15 could be punished if convicted.
Britain's foreign secretary today called on Iran to resolve the crisis peacefully. Speaking on the sidelines of an EU summit in Germany, Margaret Beckett said London is continuing to express its willingness to engage in dialogue with Iran.
