반기문 유엔 사무총장은 22일, 이라크의 안보상황이 현저하게 향상되면 이라크 주재 유엔 관계관 증원을 검토해 보겠다고 말했습니다.
반 사무총장은 예고없이 이라크 수도, 바그다드를 방문해 누리 알-말리키 이라크 총리와 함께 기자회견을 가진 자리에서 이같이 말했습니다. 반 사무총장이 알-말리카 총리와 삼엄하게 요새화된 바그다드 시내 그린 존 안에서 커다란 폭발이 일어나 몸을 피하는 사태가 벌어졌으나 아무도 다치지는 않았습니다.
반 사무총장은 폭발사태후 곧 바로 알-말리키 총리와 기자회견을 계속했습니다.
반 사무총장의 기자회견장 근처에서 일어난 거대한 폭발음은 로켓포탄의 폭발음인 것으로 추정되고 있으나 아직 확실한 사건내용은 알려지지 않고 있습니다.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was startled but unhurt from a suspected rocket blast today (Thursday) during a visit to Baghdad's Green Zone.
The loud explosion was heard as the U.N. chief and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki held a news conference. The blast in the heavily fortified zone sent Mr. Ban ducking for cover and briefly interrupted the proceedings.
Moments before the blast, Mr. Ban said he would reconsider expanding the U.N. presence in Iraq once the security situation has visibly improved.
In other news, the U.S. military said coalition forces in Basra and Hillah have captured members of the Khazali network that it says was directly connected to the killing of five American troops in Karbala in January.
In that attack, insurgents wore U.S.-style military uniforms and passed through security at a command post in Karbala, then killed one American soldier and kidnapped and killed four others.
