20일 션 맥코맥 국무부 대변인은 미국 관리들은 경우에 따라 새로운 거국 정부에서 하마스 소속이 아닌 관리들과 접촉 할 것이라고 말했습니다. 19일 출범한 팔레스타인의 새 거국정부는 이슬람 무장단체인 하마스와 마흐무드 압바스 팔레스타인 자치정부 수반이 이끄는 좀 더 온건한 파타당을 모두 포함하고 있습니다.
하마스는 폭력을 규탄하고 이스라엘을 인정하라는 국제사회의 요구를 거부하고 있습니다.

Palestinian officials say a U.S. diplomat has held the first U.S. talks with a member of the new Palestinian unity government.
The officials say U.S. Consul General Jacob Walles met Palestinian finance minister Salam Fayyad today(Tuesday). Fayyad is not affliliated with the main Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah.
The U.S. consulate in Jerusalem declined to comment.
On Monday, a State Department spokesman (Sean McCormack) said U.S. officials will have contact with non-Hamas members of the new Palestinian government on a case-by-case basis.
The new government assumed office on Saturday, and includes both the Islamic militant group Hamas and the more moderate Fatah movement of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Hamas has refused international demands to renounce violence and recognize Israel.
