The Sri Lankan military says its air force today (Friday) attacked a Tamil rebel base in the east, wounding at least 31 combatants.
There was no immediate comment from the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
On Thursday, the military conducted a similar air raid on a Tamil rebel training camp.
Also this week, the Sri Lankan military said it destroyed a ship that was suspected of transporting arms for the Tamil rebels. Officials said they believe the naval attack killed 15 rebels.
The Sri Lankan military stepped up its offensive this week following a recent rebel attack on a Sri Lankan air base (in the eastern district of Batticaloa) that wounded the U.S. and Italian ambassadors and seven Sri Lankans.
The rebels said they did not know foreign diplomats were on the helicopters that were hit during the attack.
