U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates are to brief President Bush today (Saturday) on their recent trips to Europe, South Asia and the Middle East.
Rice's trip to the Middle East, Germany and Britain was aimed at reviving Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts and gaining support for the Bush administration's new security plan for Iraq.
Gates traveled to southern Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Afghanistan.
Mr. Bush's proposal to send additional troops to Iraq has brought criticism from Democrats as well as some members of his own Republican party.
On Wednesday, Democratic senator and 2008 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said she planned to introduce a Senate resolution capping the number of troops in Iraq and impose conditions on funding of Iraqi security forces.
