이들에 따르면 소코토 주 농장에서 적어도 한 건의 치명적인 H5N1 조류독감 사례가 발견됐으며, 인근 카치나 주에서도 의심 사례가 발견돼 조사가 진행 중입니다.
또 소코토 농장에서는 조류독감 확산을 막기 위해서 보건 관리들이 독성 물질을 살포해서 수천마리의 닭을 폐사시켰습니다.
나이지리아는 아프리카에서 조류독감이 발생한 첫 나라입니다. 하지만 아직 인체 감염 사례는 보고되지 않았습니다.

Officials in northern Nigeria are investigating a possible new outbreak of bird flu. The deadly H5N1 strain of the disease has been detected on at least one farm in Sokoto state.
Two other suspected cases are being investigated in nearby Katsina state. At the Sokoto farm, officials have sprayed chemicals to kill thousands of birds, in an effort to keep the virus from spreading.
Nigeria was the first African country hit by bird flu but has not reported any human cases of the disease.
