State media in China say President Hu Jintao is urging Iran to respond seriously to a U.N. Security Council resolution that imposed sanctions targeting Iran's nuclear industry and ballistic missile program.
State media said today (Friday) that Mr. Hu told Iran's visiting chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, that the resolution reflects the shared concerns of the international community.
On Thursday, Larijani said Tehran is seeking what he called a "reasonable solution" through talks. He stressed that Iranian officials will continue to honor a nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
Larijani is in Beijing on a two-day official visit for talks with senior Chinese officials.
China supports Iran's right to a nuclear program. But, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, it voted for a resolution that bars all countries from selling materials and technology to Iran that could contribute to its nuclear and missile program.
