Violence is continuing in Iraq, two days after ousted dictator Saddam Hussein was hanged in Baghdad.
The U.S. military announced it killed six terrorists as American troops approached what intelligence reports had indicated was an al-Qaida hideout in a Sunni neighborhood of the capital. One of the buildings was later identified as belonging to a Sunni politician (Saleh al-Mutlaq, head of the National Dialogue Front).
The military says U.S. troops came under fire and returned fire, killing the terrorists.
The latest clash comes as U.S. media and a reliable Web site tracking U.S. war casualties (www.icasualties.org) said (on Sunday) that the number of U.S. military deaths in Iraq had reached the three-thousand mark.
The Pentagon has not confirmed that number.
In other news, reports from Jordan say Saddam Hussein's eldest daughter (Raghad) joined hundreds in Amman today (Monday) protesting the execution of the deposed dictator.
