유엔 안전보장이사회는 23일, 이란의 핵계획과 관련해 이란을 제재하는 결의안을 만장일치로 채택했습니다.
이날 표결 직후, 이란 외무부 대변인은 이 결의안이 불법이라고 밝히고, 이란의 핵계획은 평화적인 것이며, 이란은 핵계획을 계속 추진할 것이라고 말했습니다.
미국 국무부의 니콜라스 번스 대변인은 미국 관계관들이 이 결의안을 충분치 못한 것으로 생각하고 있다고 밝히고, 개별국가들에 대한 추가 제재와 함께 유엔의 보다 강력한 조치를 촉구했습니다.
이날 채택된 결의안은 모든 회원국들에 대해 민감한 핵물질과 탄도미사일부문에서 이란과의 무역을 금지하는 한편, 이란의 핵과 미사일계획과 관련된 것으로 간주하는 주요기업체들과 개인들의 자산이 동결됩니다.
대 이란 제재는 이란 지도자들이 이란의 우라늄 농축계획을 중단하고, 핵협상에 복귀하도록 설득하기 위해 취해진 것입니다. 그리고 이 결의는 또한 이란이 이 결의안을 따르지 않을 경우, 추가로 비군사적인 조치를 취하기로 했습니다.
이번 제재 결의안 통과는 제재 수위를 놓고 회원국들간에 벌인 두달여간의 협상 줄다리기 끝에 이루어진 것입니다.

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously approved a resolution imposing sanctions on Iran for its nuclear program.
Soon after today's (Saturday's) vote, a spokesman for Iran's foreign ministry (Mohammad Ali Hosseini) called the resolution "illegal." He called Iran's nuclear programs "peaceful" and said they will continue.
A State Department spokesman (Nicholas Burns) said U.S. officials do not believe the resolution goes far enough. He called for stronger U.N. action as well as further sanctions by individual countries.
The U.N. resolution imposes a ban on Iran's trade in sensitive nuclear materials and ballistic missiles. It also freezes the assets of key companies and people the U.N. considers affiliated with Iran's nuclear and missile programs.
The sanctions are aimed at persuading Iran's leaders to halt the country's uranium enrichment program and return to nuclear negotiations. It promises further non-military sanctions if Iran does not comply.
