바그다드 중심가에서 군복으로 위장한 무장 괴한들이 상가를 기습해 적어도 30명을 납치했다고 이라크 경찰이 밝혔습니다.
경찰은 14일 백주 대낮에 벌어진 이번 납치 사건은 상가의 상인들이 표적이 됐다고 말했습니다. 무장 괴한들은 대 여섯대의 차량을 운전해 피해들을 둘러싼 채 총으로 위협한뒤 차를 세우고 상인들을 납치했습니다.
한편 미국 상원의원 6 명이 14일 바그다드를 방문해 이라크 안정을 돕기 위해 미군 병력 1만 5천명에서 2만명을 추가로 파병하라고 촉구했습니다. 공화당의 존 매케인 상원의원과 다른 5명의 의원들은 이날 바그다드에서 미국, 이라크 관리들과 회담을 가졌습니다.
매케인 의원은 이라크 정치적 과정의 진전을 위한 현 상황의 통제를 위해서 추가 병력이 필요하다고 말했습니다.

Iraqi police say gunmen wearing military uniforms have kidnapped at least 30 people during a raid in central Baghdad.
Police say the daylight kidnapping raid targeted merchants in a commercial area of the city. Gunmen driving several vehicles rounded up the victims at gunpoint before driving off.
Meanwhile, several U.S. Senators visiting Baghdad today (Thursday) called for sending 15 to 30-thousand more U.S. troops to Iraq to help stabilize the country. Senator John McCain and five other senators are in the Iraqi capital for talks with U.S. and Iraqi officials.
McCain -- a Republican from Arizona -- said more troops are needed to bring the situation in Iraq under control in order to allow the political process to proceed.
