아프가니스탄에서 탈레반 과격분자들의 공격이 증가하는 가운데 국가 장래를 낙관하는 사람들이 크게 줄어든 것으로 새 여론조사 결과 나타났습니다.
영국의 BBC 방송과 미국의 ABC 뉴스가 아프가니스탄 전역의 성인 1천명을 대상으로 실시한 여론 조사 결과 아프가니스탄이 올바른 방향으로 가고 있다고 답한 응답자의 수는 전체의 55 퍼센트로 나타났습니다.
이는 지난해 77 퍼센트에 달했던데 비해 크게 줄어든 것입니다.
탈레반 과격분자들과 북대서양 조약기구-나토 연합군 사이의 치열한 전투현장인 아프가니스탄 남부 헬만드주와 칸다하 주의 경우 설문조사 참가자들 가운데 40 퍼센트 만이 국가장래를 낙관한다고 답했습니다.
그러나 이번 설문조사 결과에 따르면 대다수 아프가니스탄 인들은 국가 장래에 대해 자신감을 갖고 있으며 아프가니스탄 정부를 지지하고 지난 2001년 미국이 주도하는 연합군이 탈레반 정권을 몰아낸 일을 잘한 일로 인정하고 있습니다.

A new survey of public opinion in Afghanistan suggests that optimism about the country's future has fallen significantly in the past year, as Taleban militants have intensified their insurgency.
The poll commissioned by the BBC and U.S. network ABC News surveyed about one-thousand adults across Afghanistan.
The percentage of respondents who think Afghanistan is heading in the right direction fell to 55 percent, from 77 percent a year ago. Only 40 percent of respondents in the southern provinces of Helmand and Kandahar said they were optimistic about the country's future.
The provinces have been the scene of fierce fighting between Taleban militants and NATO forces. But, the poll also suggests that a majority of Afghans remain confident in their country's future, support the Afghan government and approve of the U.S.-led invasion that ousted the Taleban regime in 2001.
