President Bush says America will remain engaged in Asia because the nation's interests depend on expansion of freedom and opportunity there.
The president made the comment today (Saturday) in his weekly radio address. He is in Hanoi, Vietnam, for a summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation to discuss global trade liberalization.
Mr. Bush said Asian nations and the United States are working together on alternative fuel supplies that will make the nations less dependent on oil. He said they are also cooperating on strategies to deal with avian flu.
President Bush also noted that he has held meetings with Asian leaders about the threat of nuclear proliferation in North Korea. He said America is working with its partners in the six-party talks to enforce sanctions on Pyongyang.
