An apparent tornado has hit the southeastern United States today (Thursday), killing at least five people and injuring several more.
Local media report a tornado destroyed a mobile home neighborhood in the coastal North Carolina city of Riegelwood (near Wilmington, North Carolina) and moved several mobile homes from their foundations.
Television footage shows downed trees and power lines, leaving some people without power.
Schools in the small town also have been closed.
Emergency officials say they are continuing to search for missing people.
Meanwhile, weather officials are forecasting heavy rains and gusty winds for the area today.
