이라크 주둔 미군은 이라크 수도 바그다드 남부에서 벌인 작전도중 이라크 알-카에다 고위 관계자를 체포했습니다.
28일에 단행된 이번 작전은 이라크에 외국용병을 들여오는 일을 담당하는 알-카데다 단원들을 검거하기위한 것이었다고 이라크 주둔 미군은 밝혔습니다.
미군은 작전도중 용의자 한 명을 살해하고 10명을 체포했습니다.
이보다 하루 앞선 27일 알-안바르 주에서 미군 해병대원 한 명이 숨졌습니다.
한편 누리 알-말리키 이라크 총리가 미국과의 관계를 명확히 밝혔다고 총리 보좌관들이 말했습니다.
말리키 총리는 28일중에 조지 부쉬 미국 대통령과 화상회의를 가질 예정입니다.
앞서 이번주 카릴자드 대사는 이라크 지도자들이 이라크내 폭력사태를 종식시키기위한 일정표에 동의했다고 말했으나 말리키 총리는 미국이 이같은 일정표를 이라크 정부에 부과할 권리가 없다고 말해 논란을 불러 일으켰었습니다.

The U.S. military in Iraq says American troops captured a senior al-Qaida operative during a raid south of the capital, Baghdad.
Military officials say the raid today (Saturday) focused on a militant believed to be responsible for bringing foreign fighters into Iraq. They say the American soldiers killed one suspect and arrested 10 others.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military says another American died in combat. Officials say the U.S. Marine was killed Friday in al-Anbar province.
On the political front, aides to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki say the Iraqi leader has clarified his relationship with the United States. Aides say Mr. Maliki told U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad on Friday that he was Washington's friend but "not America's man in Iraq."
Mr. Maliki is scheduled to speak by video link with U.S. President George Bush later today (Saturday).
The prime minister's comment came amid a controversy over whether the two countries had agreed on a timetable to improve security and Iraq's economy.
