일본 해안경비대는 중국과 영유권 분쟁이 일고 있는 섬에서 시위를 벌이려는 중국인들의 상륙을 저지했다고 밝혔습니다.
일본 해안 경비대 대변인은 경비대 순찰선이 25일 동중해 상에서 시위대를 실은 배를 발견하고 회항할 것을 권유했으며, 이후 물을 쏴서 상륙을 저지했다고 말했습니다.
대변인에 따르면 이 배는 대만 동북부 200킬로미터 지점 부근에서 회항했습니다.
22일 홍콩에서 출발한 이 배에는 반일단체 회원 25명이 타고 있었으며, 섬에 상륙해서 일본의 영유권 주장에 대해 항의할 계획이었습니다. 이들은 이날 해상 시위만을 벌였습니다.
한편, 중국과 타이완, 일본 간에 영유권 분쟁이 일고있는 이 섬은 일본명 ‘센카쿠’, 중국명 ‘댜오위다오’로, 어획량이 풍부하고 석유 매장 가능성도 있습니다.
일본은 1895년 타이완을 점령하면서 이 섬의 영유권을 주장했습니다. 미국은 2차세계대전 이후 이 섬의 통제권을 갖고 있다가, 1972년에 일본에 반환했습니다.

Japan's coast guard says it has prevented a boat carrying ethnic Chinese activists from landing on a disputed chain of islands.
A coast guard spokesman said Japanese patrol ships first warned the vessel to steer clear of the islands in the East China Sea today (Friday) and then sprayed it with water.
Officials say the boat has left the area, about 200 kilometers northeast of Taiwan.
About 25 activists had set sail from Hong Kong Sunday with plans to protest Japan's claim of sovereignty over the islands - known as "Senkaku" in Japan and "Diaoyu" in China. Both China and Taiwan also claim the island chain, which is surrounded by rich fishing grounds and possible oil deposits.
Japan took control of the islands in 1895 when it colonized Taiwan. The U.S. held the islands following World War Two and returned them to Japan in 1972.
