China has sent a senior envoy to North Korea (today/Thursday) in an effort to resolve the crisis over the north's nuclear weapons test.
Officials in Beijing said the Chinese envoy (former foreign minister Tang Jiaxuan) met North Korean leader Kim Jong Il to relay a message from China's President Hu Jintao.
North Korea's state-run media said the two men discussed regional security issues.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice traveled to South Korea during an Asian tour to rally support for U.N. Security Council sanctions against North Korea.
In an television interview (with ABC), a North Korean general (Ri Chan Bok) warned that war was "inevitable" if President Bush continues to ask the north to "kneel."
In Washington, a White House spokesman (Tony Snow) says the president has no desire to humiliate North Korea. He said Washington is seeking to improve North Korea's economic and security conditions, as well as regional stability.
