콘돌리자 라이스 미 국무장관은 교착상태에 빠진 중동 평화 협상의 부활을 목적으로 한 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 고위관리들과의 회담을 마쳤습니다.
라이스 장관은 5일 치피 리브니 이스라엘 외무장관과 아미르 페레즈 국방장관을 만난 후 이스라엘을 떠나면서 어떠한 공식 성명도 발표하지 않았습니다.
라이스 장관은 이스라엘로 부터 팔레스타인들에 대한 제한을 어느정도 완화하겠다는 동의를 받아냈다고 말했습니다. 이스라엘은 이집트와 가자 지구 사이의 라파 국경 통과소를 다음 달에 정기적인 간격을 두고 개방할 예정입니다.
새로운 보도에 따르면 미국은 팔레스타인의 마흐무드 압바스 자치정부 수반의 보안병력을 증강하기 위해 2천만 달러를 지원하는 계획안을 제안했습니다. 이 계획안은 현재 하마스 무장 단체와 권력 투쟁에 있는 압바스 자치수반과 그의 온건 파타당을 지원하겠다는 미국의 광범위한 목표의 일부입니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has ended her talks with top Israeli and Palestinian officials aimed at reviving the stalled Mideast peace process.
Rice did not make any public comments as she left Israel today (Thursday), after meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Amir Peretz. Her destination has not been disclosed.
Rice gained agreement from Israel to ease some restrictions on the Palestinians. Israel is to open the Rafah crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip at regular intervals over the next month.
News reports also say the United States has proposed a 20-million dollar plan to boost Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's security force.
The plan is part of a larger U.S. goal to support Mr. Abbas and his more moderate Fatah faction in its power struggle with the militant group Hamas.
