한편, 북한의 핵실험을 자제하라고 촉구하는 국제사회의 압력수위가 높아지고 있습니다.
중국과 일본, 한국은 다음 주에 북핵 사태에 관한 정상회담을 가질 예정인 가운데 북한의 핵실험 자제를 강력히 촉구하고 있습니다. 한국은 북한이 핵실험을 강행할 경우 그에 따른 책임을 져야 할 것이라고 경고했습니다. 중국은 다소 유연한 자세를 보이면서 북한에게 냉정과 6자 회담 복귀를 촉구했습니다.
러시아의 세르게이 라브로프 외무장관도 북한에게 자제를 촉구하면서 북한과 미국간 양자 직접대화를 제의했습니다.
한편, 파키스탄은 외무부 성명을 통해 북한의 핵실험 위협에 깊은 우려를 표명했습니다. 파키스탄 성명은 북한이 지역안정을 고도로 불안정하게 만들게 될 한반도에 핵무기를 등장시키는 것을 단념하라고 촉구했습니다. 파키스탄 성명은 또 북한이 자제해야 하며 6자회담에 복귀해야 한다고 아울러 촉구했습니다.
파키스탄은 자국의 핵개발 계획 최고위 관계관인 압둘 카디르 칸 박사가 북한과 이란, 리비아에 핵무기 관련 기술을 비밀리에 판매했었음을 2년전에 시인한 바 있습니다.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton says the Security Council is divided on how to respond to North Korea's announcement that it will test a nuclear weapon at an unspecified date.
Bolton told reporters today (Wednesday) that Japan had drafted a statement for the security council to consider. France and Britain say they are in favor of what they called a strong statement.
But Bolton says it is not clear what Korea's closest allies on the council - China and Russia - will do. China's ambassador says he does not have instructions from his government.
China says, however, the U.S. needs to be more creative in its efforts to get
North Korea back to six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program.
Meanwhile, a U.S. intelligence official says unusual activity has been detected at potential North Korean nuclear test sites, though it was difficult to determine the nature of activity.
South Korea says there are no definite signs that North Korea is preparing a nuclear test.
China, Japan and South Korea plan summits next week to discuss Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions. South Korea has warned it will hold the North accountable if it carries out the test. China has taken a softer approach, appealing for calm and a return to multilateral talks aimed at disarming North Korea.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is also urging restraint and is calling for direct talks between the United States and North Korea.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says a North Korean nuclear test would be "a very provocative act."
North Korea says its prospective nuclear test is necessary to counter U.S. hostility. Washington says it has no intention of attacking Pyongyang, and says North Korea could enjoy significant economic and diplomatic benefits if it gives up its nuclear arms.
