북대서양 조약 기구 나토는 오는 5일 아프가니스탄 전역에 걸쳐 나토 동맹군의 지휘권을 완전 인수할 것이라고 말했습니다.
나토의 한 고위 관리는 3일, 그 같은 조치로 현재 아프간 동부지역에서 미군의 지휘하에 있는 만 2천여명의 병력에 대한 지휘권도 나토군이 맡게 될 것이라고 말했습니다.
나토 대변인은 지난 1일, 아프가니스탄에 주둔중인 미군의 전체적 수준은 변동이 없을 것이라고 밝힌 바 있습니다.
알 카에다 테러 분자 수색작전이나 공습 작전에 투입되어 있는 약 8천여명의 미군들은 계속 미군 사령부의 지휘를 받게 됩니다. 한편 하미드 카르자이 아프가니스탄 대통령은 지난 30일,과격분자들의 훈련 기지들을 분쇄하기 위한 아프간의 노력을 지원해주도록 국제 사회에 촉구했습니다.

NATO says it will take full command of the alliance security assistance force throughout Afghanistan Thursday.
A senior NATO official (Daan Everts) said today (Tuesday) that in taking the action the alliance will assume responsibility for up to 12 thousand troops that until now have been under authority of the U.S. military in eastern Afghanistan.
A NATO spokesman (Mark Laity) said Sunday that the overall American force level in the country will not change. About eight thousand U.S. troops tracking al-Qaida terrorists, or involved in aerial operations will remain under direct U.S. Command.
On Saturday, Afghan President Hamid Karzai called on the international community to assist his country in its efforts to close down sanctuaries where extremists train.
He said Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has promised to crack down on Islamist militants in his country.
