미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관이 닷새 일정의 중동 순방을 위해 1일 출국합니다.
라이스 장관은 제다에서 사우디의 압둘라 국왕과 회담하고 이집트의 호스니 무바락 대통령 및 아불 사이트 외무 장관과도 회담할 것으로 보입니다.
그후 라이스 장관은 팔레스타인의 마흐무드 압바스 자치 정부 수반 및 이스라엘의 에후드 올메르트 총리와 만날 예정입니다.
조지 부쉬 미국 대통령은 라이스 장관을 중동에 파견하는 것은 온건파 지도자들과 교류하고 팔레스타인 안보 부처의 개혁을 도우며 이스라엘-팔레스타인간 평화 과정을 지원하기 위한 것이라고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 이스라엘과 레바논 내 헤즈볼라 무장 분자들간 34일에 걸쳐 계속된 전쟁 기간 중인 지난 7월 중동 지역을 마지막 방문했습니다.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice leaves today (Sunday) on a five-day trip to the Middle East.
Rice is expected to meet with Saudi King Abdullah in Jeddah and hold talks with Egypt's president (Hosni Mubarak) and foreign minister (Aboul Gheit). Later, she will meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
President Bush said he is sending Rice to the region to lead a diplomatic effort to engage moderate leaders, to help Palestinians reform their security services and to support the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
Ms. Rice last visited the region in July, during the 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.
