이란은 외국태생의 아버지와 이란인 어머니 사이에 태어난 아이들에게 시민권을 부여하는 법안을 통과시켰습니다.
이란 관영 통신은 24일에 통과된 이 법안은 이들 어린이가 18살이 되면 시민권을 신청할 수 있도록 허용하고 있다고 보도했습니다.
이란 시민권 신청자들은 자신들이 보유하고 있는 다른 나라 국적을 포기하고 신원 조회를 통과해야하며 부모가 합법적으로 결혼했음을 입증해야합니다.
이란은 역사적으로 아버지 국적을 토대로 시민권을 부여함으로써 외국 태생의 아버지를 둔 수많은 아이들이 합법적인 시민권을 부여받지 못했습니다.
이제 새로운 법안으로 많은 아이들이 이란 시민권을 신청하게 됐지만 불법 체류자와 결혼한 이란인 어머니 사이의 자녀들은 시민권을 신청할 자격이 없습니다.

Iran has passed a law offering citizenship to children with a foreign father and an Iranian mother.
Iran's state news agency reports that the law, passed Sunday, allows the children to apply for citizenship once they become 18 years old. Applicants must give up any other nationalities they hold, pass a security clearance and prove their parents' marriage was legally registered.
Iran has historically based nationality on paternity alone, leaving many children born to foreign fathers in legal limbo.
The new law allows many -- but not all of those children to apply for citizenship. Children whose mothers married illegal immigrants are not eligible to apply for citizenship.
