보좌관들에 따르면 부쉬 대통령은 19일 UN 총회 연설에서, 이라크, 레바논, 팔레스타인 자치지구에서 떠오르고 있는 민주주의에 대한 지원을 호소할 계획입니다.
부쉬 대통령은 또 이들 지역의 민주주의 확대를 위한 자신의 비전을 다시 소개할 계획입니다.
부쉬 대통령은 18일에도 민주주의 확대를 위한 노력으로 온건 회교국인 말레이지아를 비롯해서 최근 독재의 잔재에서 벗어나려고 노력하고 있는 엘 살바도르, 혼두라스, 그리고 아프리카 국가 중에서 빠르게 민주주의가 성장하고 있는 탄자니아 지도자들과 만날 계획입니다.
부쉬 대통령은 이번 주말에는 팔레스타인, 이라크 대통령과 만나며, 프랑스 자크 시라크 대통령과는 이란 핵문제에 대해 논의할 예정입니다.

President Bush is heading to the United Nations to rally support for emerging democracies in the Middle East.
Mr. Bush will address the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday. His aides say he will call for help in shoring up democracies in Iraq, Lebanon and the Palestinian Territories. He will also again lay out his vision for advancing democracy through the region and beyond.
The theme is central to his meetings today (Monday) with the leaders of Malaysia, a moderate Islamic nation, El Salvador and Honduras, both emerging from dictatorial pasts, and Tanzania, an increasingly democratic African nation.
Later in the week he is to meet with the Palestinian and Iraqi presidents and discuss Iran's nuclear program with the president of France.
