영국의 토니 블레어 총리는 이스라엘과 헤즈볼라간 전투가 벌어진 뒤를 이어 영국 정부가 레바논의 교량들을 재건하고 군 병력을 훈련시키는 일을 도울 것이라고 말했습니다.
블레어 총리는 11일 베이루트에서 레바논의 파우드 시니오라 총리와 가진 합동 기자회견에서 그같이 다짐했습니다. 블레어 총리는 영국이 레바논 재건 특히 이스라엘의 미사일 공격으로 파괴된 교량 복구 작업을 위해 올해 7천 5백만 달러를 지원할 것이라고 말했습니다.
블레어 총리는 영국이 또한 레바논 군 병력이 자국 영토를 전면 통제할 수 있도록 확실히 하기 위해 군 훈련과 장비 등도 제공할 것이라고 덧붙였습니다. 한편 베이루트 중심가에서는 2천여명의 레바논인들이 최근 이스라엘과 헤즈볼라간 전투에서 블레어 총리가 이스라엘 편이었다고 주장하면서 이에 항의하는 시위를 벌였습니다.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair says his government will help Lebanon rebuild bridges and train its armed forces following the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
Mr. Blair made the pledge today (Monday) in Beirut at a joint news conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora.
He said Britain will offer Lebanon 75 million dollars in aid this year for reconstruction, and will provide training to Lebanon's military to make sure it controls all of Lebanon's territory.
In central Beirut, more than two thousand Lebanese protested what they said was Mr. Blair's pro-Israel stance during Israel's recent war against Hezbollah.
Hundreds of Lebanese troops and riot police sealed off a large section of downtown Beirut, preventing the demonstrators from approaching the building where the two leaders were meeting.
