2주일 전 가자지구에서 납치됐던 미국의 <폭스 뉴스> 소속 언론인 2명이 석방됐습니다. 스티브 센타니씨와 뉴질랜드 출신 카메라멘 올라프 위크씨는 27일 정오께 석방돼 가자시의 한 호텔에 도착했습니다.
두 사람은 호텔에서 이스마일 하니예 팔레스타인 총리와 만나 자신들이 겪은 고초 때문에 언론인들의 가자 방문이 줄어들지 않기 바란다고 말했습니다.
센타니씨는 그동안 겪은 고초에 대해 설명하면서 납치범들이 자신과 위그씨를 심하게 다뤘다면서 그들은 가자의 한 창고에 손을 뒤로 묶인 채 감금돼 있었다고 말했습니다. 납치범들은 두 사람에게 총을 겨눈 채 이슬람으로 개종하도록 강요했다고 센타니씨는 말했습니다.
이에 앞서 납치범들은 이들 두 사람이 이슬람 교도로 개종하고 이슬람식 이름을 갖게 된 것으로 보이는 또다른 비디오를 공개했습니다. 이 비디오에서 두 사람은 각각 준비된 성명을 낭독했는데 위그씨는 성명에서 서방 지도자들에게 테러분자들과의 협상을 더이상 거부하지 말 것을 촉구했습니다.
한편 그동안 잘 알려지지 않은 `성전 여단'이라는 이름의 단체가 8월14일 발생한 이번 납치사건이 자신들의 소행이라고 주장했습니다. 이 단체는 미국이 26일까지 이슬람 수감자들을 모두 석방할 것을 요구했었습니다.

Two journalists for U.S. television network Fox News, who were kidnapped in the Gaza Strip two weeks ago, have been freed by their captors.
American correspondent Steve Centanni and New Zealand-born cameraman Olaf Wiig were released at midday (Sunday) and dropped off at a Gaza City hotel.
There, they met with Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and said they hope their ordeal does not discourage journalists from coming to Gaza.
Centanni later spoke (to Fox news) about his ordeal, saying he and Wiig were treated roughly by the kidnappers, who hid them in a garage in Gaza with their hands tied behind their backs.
Centanni says both he and his colleague were forced at gunpoint to say they had converted to Islam.
Hours before their release, the kidnappers released a video of the two journalists, showing them reading prepared statements about converting to Islam and adopting Islamic names.
A previously unknown group calling itself Holy Jihad Brigades claimed responsibility for kidnapping the journalists on August 14th. The group had demanded that the United States release Muslim prisoners by Saturday.
