Pope Benedict has voiced new hope for a ceasefire in Lebanon, and is urging the quick and efficient delivery of humanitarian aid to victims of the conflict once a truce is in place.
In an address today (Sunday) from his summer home near Rome, the pontiff said news of a ceasefire on Monday gives hope that four weeks of fighting between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrillas will finally stop.
The United Nations Security Council has unanimously approved a resolution calling for the truce. Israel, the Lebanese government and Hezbollah have all agreed to abide by the deal.
