하마스 정부의 이스마일 하니야 총리는 이날 성명에서 팔레스타인 무장 세력과 이스라엘군은 가자지구에서 군사 작전을 중단하고 평정을 찾으라고 촉구했습니다.
이스라엘군은 앞서 8일 가자지구의 한 교외 지역에 진격한뒤 북부 가자지구의 일부 지역에서 철수했습니다.
팔레스타인 의료 관계자들은 이날 이스라엘군의 습격으로 2명의 팔레스타인이 사망했다고 말했습니다.
이스라엘의 아비 디취터 공보장관은 7일 팔레스타인 민병대가 체포한 이스라엘 병사를 석방할경우 화해의 표시로 일부 팔레스타인 수감자들을 석방할 의지가 있다고 말했습니다. 그러나 다른 이스라엘 관리들은 포로와 수감자의 맞교환에 관해 타협하지 않을 것이라고 말하고 있습니다.

The Palestinian Hamas government has called for a ceasefire by militants and Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip after nearly two weeks of fighting that has left about 40 Palestinians dead.

Earlier today (Saturday), Israeli troops withdrew from parts of the northern Gaza Strip after other forces advanced to the (Shajaiyeh neighborhood on the) outskirts of Gaza City.
Palestinian medical officials say at least two Palestinians were killed in today's incursion.
An Israeli Cabinet minister (Public Security Minister Avi Dichter) said Friday his country might be willing to release Palestinian prisoners as a goodwill gesture if militants first release a captured Israeli soldier (Corporal Gilad Shalit). Other officials say Israel will not negotiate a prisoner swap.
The capture of the soldier on June 25th sparked the latest violence.
